I am fortunate to pastor a church located minutes away from one of the world’s largest and busiest airports, Hartsfield-Jackson International Airport, in Atlanta, Georgia. Pastoring a church so close to an international airport has afforded me the opportunity to pastor and meet many pilots.
I have learned from pilots that when they board an airplane for their flight, the pilots are required to have a bag loaded with several documents, booklets, textbooks, and user manuals. Pilots are required to have this loaded bag with these important documents always by their side for a successful flight. The loaded bag serves as an essential kit in case if anything goes wrong with the airplane, the pilots quickly have a chance to repair it, solve it, or enhance it. As long as the pilots are are on the plane and in the pilot’s seat, they are required by law to always have this bag with these resources with them and the bag should never leave their side.
As a believer, we should be this adamant regarding having the Bible beside us. Not only beside us, God’s desire is we place it in our heart and mediate on it daily. It is our resource to repair, solve, and enhance our lives, the abundant life, God has desired for us. Pilots are anticipating the day when they get the opportunity to carry simple digital devices which will hold all of their documents in one place. I believe God is anticipating the day His believers will place His Word in one place – our hearts.
Throughout the scriptures, God has given us instructions about how important it is to live and stand by His Word. The first chapter in the book of Psalm records the importance of His Word in our life:
but the path of the wicked leads to destruction. Psalm 1:1-6
