Meditating on the Word of God

The enemy, Satan, loves to thwart what God has designed and established for His people.  Perusing through a self-help section of a bookstore, you will find many books about mediating – “10 Ways to Meditate” or “Finding Your Place to Meditate.”  Know that every time Satan devises smokescreens,  he is definitely counterfeiting something real and established by God.  The devil never created anything!  Since he is the father of lies, he falsifies and imitates the things of God.  I have found that God says a lot about meditating and specifically meditating on the Word of God.

What is mediations?  It simply means ‘to walk and talk,’ and ‘to memorize, visualize, and personalize’ the Word of God.  Many promises of the Bible relate only to specific actions:

“Honor your father and mother, as the LORD your God commanded you. Then you will live a long, full life in the land the LORD your God is giving you.”  Deuteronomy 5:16

God gave a command which required an action.  The command was to honor your father and your mother.  The specific promise was ‘you will live a long, full life in the land of the Lord.’

Joshua 1:8, however, is God’s command for His people to meditate on His Word.  In addition, it carries a promise which goes with everything in your life:

“Study this Book of Instruction continually. Meditate on it day and night so you will be sure to obey everything written in it. Only then will you prosper and succeed in all you do.” Joshua 1:8

You take that one verse out of that chapter and book and you will see a powerful life-giving statement! God simply said to study His Word continually.  Meditate on it.  Walk on it.  Ponder on it. Recite it.  Obey everything written in it.  And the promise is you will prosper and succeed in all you do.

Beloved, all means all!  You want to be successful?  You want to prosper no matter how bad the economy gets?  Meditate on His Word!

We may say to ourselves, “Well, that was for Joshua.”  Let go back and look at Psalm 1:2 and 3:

But they delight in the law of the Lord,

meditating on it day and night.

They are like trees planted along the riverbank,

    bearing fruit each season.

Their leaves never wither,

and they prosper in all they do.  Psalm 1:2 and 3

Meditation upon the Word of God is the number one key to being prosperous and successful in every area of your life.
