Our family is an RV family. Being a family of nine, we have enjoyed traveling around the country in our RV. Last year, we purchased an RV which had a bunk which lowered down from the ceiling. It never works properly and in order to get it to work, you have to manually screw the remote from the wall.
With the remote in your hand, you have to do a six step process to get it to work. If you fail to do any of the six steps, it will not work properly and you have to begin over again. Needless to say, it is extremely frustrating to the point of almost cussing. Yet, if I follow exactly as described in the manual all six steps in the proper order, the bed functions as it should.
In Joshua chapter 1, Moses was dead. When Moses died, the communicator for God to God’s people had died. He was the Word of God to the people of Israel. Now Joshua is rising to become the leader and God has a one on one session about success with him as he takes the reign of leadership of God’s people:
No man shall be able to stand before you all the days of your life; as I was with Moses, so I will be with you. I will not leave you nor forsake you. Be strong and of good courage, for to this people you shall divide as an inheritance the land which I swore to their fathers to give them. Only be strong and very courageous, that you may observe to do according to all the law which Moses My servant commanded you; do not turn from it to the right hand or to the left, that you may prosper wherever you go. This Book of the Law shall not depart from your mouth, but you shall meditate in it day and night, that you may observe to do according to all that is written in it. For then you will make your way prosperous, and then you will have good success. Have I not commanded you? Be strong and of good courage; do not be afraid, nor be dismayed, for the LORD your God is with you wherever you go.” Joshua 1:5-9 NKJV
There are too many self-help books and many how to be successful books. Yet, God tells Joshua in order to be successful, he must do exactly what God directs Him to do. How our shelves are filled with many books yet our hearts, our minds, our career paths, and our education only need one – the Word of God.
During Super Bowl 37, FedEx ran a commercial that spoofed the movie Castaway, in which Tom Hanks played a FedEx worker whose company plane went down, stranding him on a desert island for years. Looking like the bedraggled Hanks in the movie, the FedEx employee in the commercial goes up to the door of a suburban home, package in hand.
When the lady comes to the door, he explains that he survived five years on a deserted island, and during that whole time he kept this package in order to deliver it to her. She gives a simple, “Thank you.” But he is curious about what is in the package that he has been protecting for years. He says, “If I may ask, what was in that package after all?”
She opens it and shows him the contents, saying, “Oh, nothing really. Just a satellite telephone, a global positioning device, a compass, a water purifier, and some seeds.”
Beloved, we have the Word of God. Many of us may own many Bibles yet if we do not open them and absorb them into our lives, it can not perform what it is set out to do. We must learn to eat and dine on the Word of God. We must pray for a hunger for the Word of God.
Why? Because it will bring us success in every area of our life. Begin today praying for a hunger for His Word and watch what success will bring into your life.
