Very young children do things which perplex parents. They lie. They hurt. They steal. Parents want to know where they learned how to such things. They assume the children must have learned it at school or learned it from their relatives or friends.
No, most of the time when a simple two year lies, their sin nature is in action. The sin nature follows us through our preschool years, school years and into our adulthood. We sin. We are born to sin. It is in our DNA.
The Bible says in Psalm 51:5 we were brought forth in iniquity (sin) and in sin our mothers conceived us. We were born in sin. We were born to sin.
Since the garden of Eden, the first Adam brought sin which has allowed it to enter our bodies, emotions, and our personalities. It plagues our lives. It fills every part of our being. The day we make Jesus Lord over our lives, the power of sin no longer controls us. We are born again!
Jesus, the last Adam, destroyed the power of sin on the cross. Upon accepting Jesus as Lord over your life, you became born again. Though you were born in sin, now your have been born again. The Bible says Christ suffered once for sins, the righteous for the unrighteous, that he might bring us to God, being put to death in the flesh but made alive in the Spirit. (1 Peter 3:18)
You have been born again. You are no longer a slave to sin but a slave to righteousness. Do you continue to sin? Yes but you do not have to be a slave to the sin. Jesus died so you can be free from sin.
Clinging to your sin cheapens and devalues the work of the cross. The work of the cross is null and void in your life when you cling to the sin you so desire. You must cling to the life giving, sin destroying work of cross and be born again.
This is where I am told, “But all have sinned and fallen short of the glory of God!” The devil loves that one! The reason why the devil enjoys it for the believer to know that verse is because we know that part well. It almost gives us a free ticket to sin. Yet, if you read on beyond those words you find Jesus:
For everyone has sinned; we all fall short of God’s glorious standard. Yet God, in his grace, freely makes us right in his sight. He did this through Christ Jesus when he freed us from the penalty for our sins. For God presented Jesus as the sacrifice for sin. People are made right with God when they believe that Jesus sacrificed his life, shedding his blood. This sacrifice shows that God was being fair when he held back and did not punish those who sinned in times past, for he was looking ahead and including them in what he would do in this present time. God did this to demonstrate his righteousness, for he himself is fair and just, and he makes sinners right in his sight when they believe in Jesus. Romans 3:23-26
Beloved, you have been made free. You have been born again. Now, it is important to take on the acts of righteousness. Know who you are in Christ. Stop making the cross null and void and begin walking out in the freedom found in and through Christ. You have been made right with God when you believed Jesus. God has made you right in his sight when you believed on Jesus. Begin walking in your righteousness.
You have been born again. Now walk in the things of the spirit and not the flesh.
