The Most Scariest Verse in the Bible

Who controls your life? Who says where you work or live?  Who directs every one of your steps? Who chose your career, your course of studies, or your life choices?  The basic question is who is your lord?

Jesus being Lord of your life has become a cliche not completely understood and not used to His full extent.  Lordship is the act of someone having power, authority, or influence; a master or ruler.  We make Jesus ‘Lord’ over our lives or at least we say we do but do we really make Him Lord, true Lord, over our lives.

How can we go about our lives without consulting our Master regarding various decisions or decisions which could even be life changing and altering? I fear for many who will one day stand before Jesus and be given one of the most scariest responses:  “Depart from Me for I never knew you!”  What do you mean you might ask?

One of the scariest and most fearful things Jesus taught was the judgment.  Jesus shares on that day many will have to depart from Him for He never knew Him and these were once believers in Him:

“Not everyone who calls out to me, ‘Lord! Lord!’ will enter the Kingdom of Heaven. Only those who actually do the will of my Father in heaven will enter. On judgment day many will say to me, ‘Lord! Lord! We prophesied in your name and cast out demons in your name and performed many miracles in your name.’  But I will reply, ‘I never knew you. Get away from me, you who break God’s laws.’  Matthew 7:21-23

When the two words ‘Lord, Lord’ are used in Matthew 21, it signifies an exclamation.  I believe this will be the first time many will scream out to Jesus acknowledging He has been Lord all along.  These were people who operated in the anointing and power of God yet never made Jesus Lord over their lives.  Miracles were done, demons were casted out, and prophesies were performed yet sadly Jesus was never Lord over their lives.

God’s gifts and callings are irrevocable. (Romans 11:29)  There are people who are called and operating in the gifts of God whose Lord is not God but themselves and other things and people.  One day, they will stand before The Lord will have to give an account.

What about you today? Who is Lord or lord over your life?  Who is Lord or lord over your marriage, your relationships, your finances, your career, or your education?  Who is Lord or lord over your children? You? When you accepted Jesus as Lord, did you really mean it? Have your really made Jesus Lord over every area of your life? What about 20, 40, or 60 percent or is it 100 percent?

Making Jesus Lord is the most adventurous and most liberating act you can do? First, it is adventurous because you then have no idea what God will do with your life. I can say from experience it is exciting! At the same time, it is liberating. Your life really is not your own.  You will then truly ‘live, move, and have your being’ in His Lordship. (Acts 17:28)

Perform a self heart examination today.  Is He Lord in name only or is He truly Lord?  Begin today turning areas of your life over to him and watch what God does with you!
