Acknowledge Your Desires

In the recent posts, Our Divine Nature vs. Our Earthly Desires and What You Feed, Grows. Starve It, It Will Die, I have been sharing desires and the importance of defeating your desires before they grow into sin. Some desires in your life may have already grown into sin. These posts share the genesis of how sin grows and eventually leads to death.

I will be sharing a three-step process to destroy your desires. Before I go to the second and third step, one must do the first thing:  acknowledge your desires.  They are there.  Some of your desires have been there since you were born.  Other’s may have been acquired from childhood, teenage years, or adulthood, yet they are there.

You can not conquer what you don’t confront.  It is important you acknowledge your desires. The seat of your desires is where you are tempted. Temptation does not come from the devil. They come from your desires. James told us that:

And remember, when you are being tempted, do not say, “God is tempting me.” God is never tempted to do wrong, and he never tempts anyone else. Temptation comes from our own desires, which entice us and drag us away. These desires give birth to sinful actions. And when sin is allowed to grow, it gives birth to death. James 1:13-15

Let me encourage you to acknowledge your desires so you can cut off temptation at the pass. Write them down, take a mental note, or take one at a time and begin defeating your earthly, fleshly desires.

After the post, I am going to provide two more steps to conquer your desires.  They will not be easy but remember, you can not conquer what you don’t confront.
