Our news feeds are filled with bad news. School shootings abound in the news. Mass shootings regularly plaque our headlines. Our streets are war zones. Our nation is believes new laws, enforcement of old laws, and creative ideas are the answers.
Why can we not walk down the street, shop at malls, attend marathons and concerts, take flights, and the like without worried if we will come out alive?
Regarding our schools, when are we going to stop and say “What has happened!?!” Just a few decades ago, there were no things as school counselors or ‘resource officers.’ When do we stop and say “what has happened” when some schools have complete police forces as some large cities and counties have. There were no metal detectors. There were not even fences. Schools were small communities where everyone knew everyone and their families. They were not small cities. Tjhey definitely were not war zones.
Why are guns always to blame for a person’s heart condition? Guns are only tools. If it weren’t a gun, wouldn’t other tools be used to kill like knives, cars, pipe bombs, pressure cookers, biochemicals? The list can go on and on but we choose to blame to tools instead of the heart of the person who used the tools.
What has happened to the family? What has happened to marriage being between a man and a woman? Why do people choose relationships without the commitment over the commitment of marriage? What happened “to until death do us part?” Is the break down of the biblical order bringing chaos on the next generations to come? Sinful lifestyles are no longer sinful lifestyles. They are the accepted norm applauded for its pride and bravado.
Why are our children today taught what was wrong since creation is right and what was right wrong? And why if you oppose and stand up for what is wrong you are shamed, shouted down, and your speech is silenced?
Why as a nation are we so consumed by one nation’s interference in our election process yet fight and some places allow illigal immigrants to vote? Isn’t that also considered foreign interference?
Why do other nations have to come into the United States going through the legal hoops neccessary to become citizens and others can come and provided a blind eye and/or applauded for their heroism and blantant lawlessness?
What happened to computers and technology making our lives easier? Why are we losing sleep because of technology? Where is the easier? Is the first thing and last thing most people see everyday their phone?
Why does our society accept 24/7 hour news cycles, commerce, and communication? Isn’t there a price to pay if there is never any rest? When do we ever turn off? When do we ever shut down? Is there a corralation between mental health and our society’s inablility to ever shut down? Is there a corralation between medical cost and situations and our cultures inability to ever cease and rest?
Why is there an increase of love for animals yet a decrease for the love of God’s superior creation – man? Why are the adoptions of animals so simple yet the adoption of children so long and arduous? Why aren’t animals just pets anymore? Why are they now so ingrained into a person’s or family’s life they will do anything to travel with them on planes, shop with them in stores, and eat with them in restaurants without any regards to another person’s desire to travel, shop, and eat animal free?
Beloved, we are living in a time like never, ever before. We have failed ourselves. Our governments has failed us. The churches has failed us. Our families have failed us.
I have many more questions . . . more questions than answers yet, beloved, we have a priority problem. We have a sin problem. We have a love problem and we have a truth problem.
Our priorities have shifted away people. People are no longer more important than things. People take a back seat to ideals, thoughts, objects and the love of sin. We are no longer ‘we the people’ but anything but ‘the people.’
Regarding sin and love, what I do know is Jesus said in the last days “Sin will be rampant everywhere, and the love of many will grow cold.” (Matthew 24:12) The Bible also declares “for the mystery of lawlessness is already at work.” (1 Thessolonians 2:7)
Paul while teaching young Timothy taught him: “In the last days there will be very difficult times. For people will love only themselves and their money. They will be boastful and proud, scoffing at God, disobedient to their parents, and ungrateful. They will consider nothing sacred. They will be unloving and unforgiving; they will slander others and have no self-control. They will be cruel and hate what is good. They will betray their friends, be reckless, be puffed up with pride, and love pleasure rather than God. They will act religious, but they will reject the power that could make them godly. Stay away from people like that!” 2 Timothy 3:1-5
Regarding truth, we are a nation and culture who have chosen to walk consistently away from the laws man has created over our land. Todays, laws are accepted and followed only when they line up with our personal philosphies, feelings, and ideals. Laws are not followed. They are challenged not in courts but in the streets of our communities.
In addition, we as a nation began walking away from the Law of the Lord as well. Laws of the land are given to provide order and prevent chaos. The Law of the Lord is to provide His people with life.
We need Life. We need the Life of God’s presence back into our families who get spiritual fed from local churches, who is the hope of the world. Then, those families go out into their world – schools, commerce, governement, etc. – with the life giving Gospel of Jesus Christ. We need to live Life. Speak Life. Walk and lead in Life.
We need Life again in our land.
