After this, the word of the Lord came to Abram in a vision: “Do not be afraid, Abram. I am your shield, your very great reward.” . . . He took him outside and said, “Look up at the sky and count the stars—if indeed you can count them.” Then he said to him, “So shall your offspring be.” Abram believed the Lord, and he credited it to him as righteousness. Genesis 5:1, 5-6
There comes a time in your life when God has to take you outside your tent to show you there are stars to numerous to count in your future. Staying inside limits your vision.
Complacency breeds failure. US President Jimmy Carter is quoted, “I hate to see complacency prevail in our lives when it’s so directly contrary to the teaching of Christ.” Becoming too comfortable and complacent can bring about stagnation.
Puddled water brings about disease. Puddled life brings about sickness. Without a vision, people die. (Proverbs 29:18)
Yet, we serve a God who desires to move us to a place He would like us to go. Before we arrive, you send us brochures of the experience in forms of visions and dreams. He whets our appetite for the unseen. He stirs in us a need for adventure. Then, He comes along side us in the journey to make sure we get on the right path.
The path is another story. It is not always cleared. Brush gets in the way. Logs have to be jumped. Hills have to be climbed. There are times you are alone and God has departed. God is always with us.
God had to take Abram out of his tent to show him his future, his seed, his nation, and his legacy. He had to take him out of the confines of his tent to enlarge his vision to see bigger than what Abram’s mind could conceive.
Then and only then after his vision was enlarged could God say, “Go.” If he remained, Abram would have never departed. Since he saw, he could walk knowing and trusting God who said He was his ‘shield and very great reward.’ (verse 1)
What is confining you today to see? What is stopping you from achieving the vision God has shown you? What is preventing you to go when God has said He would be your shield and not just your reward but your very great reward?
It is time to leave the tent.
Vision without action is merely a dream. Action without vision just passes the time. Vision with action can change the world. – Joel A. Barker
I want to hear from you. Let’s connect and share your ‘tent leaving’ experience. Where is God moving you at this moment? How has He been your shield and your very great reward. Send me a message and I would love to share it on a future post.
