I opened up one of my news feeds and read an article about Mike Rowe and his S.W.E.A.T. pledge. He is providing over a half million dollar scholarships to those entering trade schools. A parent thought his pledge was too hard for her child. She is refusing her child to apply.
I wasn’t aware of the pledge but I researched it for myself. As a parent of seven and who also builds our family on a hard work ethic, I loved it. Just this morning, I was talking to my 12-year-old about how proud I was of his track and field training he had this past weekend. His coach worked him hard. He never complained.
My wife, Karen, and I are destined to build prosperous and successful children according to the passions and desires God has equipped them. We model hard work. Nothing comes free. We enjoy a great life based on hard work and honoring God first with our increase.
I am sharing his pledge here. I am trying to discover how I can instill this in my children now though five of them have not even entered their teen years yet. Here is a copy of the pledge:
