Attitude of Gratitude

As Jesus continued on toward Jerusalem, he reached the border between Galilee and Samaria. As he entered a village there, ten men with leprosy stood at a distance, crying out, “Jesus, Master, have mercy on us!”

He looked at them and said, “Go show yourselves to the priests.” And as they went, they were cleansed of their leprosy.

One of them, when he saw that he was healed, came back to Jesus, shouting, “Praise God!” He fell to the ground at Jesus’ feet, thanking him for what he had done. This man was a Samaritan.

Jesus asked, “Didn’t I heal ten men? Where are the other nine? Has no one returned to give glory to God except this foreigner?” 19 And Jesus said to the man, “Stand up and go. Your faith has healed you.  Luke 17:11-19

We can go through life hustling and bustling and never stop to measure how much God has blessed us. We get busy going to and fro. Our lives are encompassed by social media, the media, and life in general.  When do we ever stop to see God’s goodness in our lives and say a simple ‘thank you’ to God?

The other day I was taking one of my leaders home after lunch on a major interstate. A major nasty wreck occurred right in front of us. A few cars from the scene, I slammed on breaks to avoid hitting the car in front of me.  The car behind me slammed on breaks to prevent hitting my vehicle.  Appearing no one was hurt, we went around the wreckage and continued on our way talking about life, marriage, etc.

The next day as I was driving, it hit me. That wreck could have been right in front of us.  We could have been the ones with the damaged vehicle. It could have been worse. We were protected and a prayer of gratitude rose up to God for his protection.

In post like Accepting How Rich You Are and A Note to Our Children about Money, I share how rich we all really are. Have you ever taken into account how much God does for us.  Things like vehicles, warm beds, hot water, and the like can easily be taken for granted. If we could pause for a moment to think about all of the things God has done for us, we could not hold back our praise of thanksgiving.

Begin taking inventory today for all God has done in your life.  Look at your possessions, your spiritual journey, and the people God has blessed you to have in your life. Give a huge thank you to God for those things.  Don’t be like the other nine who never came back to God to say thank you. Be the one who comes back and gives God praise for all He has done in your life.
